“I don’t just want any old douchebag in here running the place.”

–Doug Campbell, CEO & Co-Founder, Solid Power & Roccor (Boulder Daily Camera | June 30, 2017)

From relatively humble beginnings in Albuquerque, NM, Doug shook off the chains of a “real job” in 2011 to strike out on his own. In his words, “I was tired of learning how not to do things from a business perspective and figured, what the hell, I’m sure I can do a better job than these douches.”

Doug brings an unusual perspective to his business endeavors due to his atypical career trajectory. He started early adulthood as a formerly troubled teen without a clue as to what he was going to do with his life. He discovered cycling and realized he was pretty good at it so he focused on that, eventually becoming a decent, B-level professional mountain biker. Realizing that he was continuously “bringing a knife to a gunfight,” he decided getting a college degree was probably a good idea. He ultimately graduated from the University of New Mexico with a degree in civil engineering but, thankfully for society, he had an advisor encourage him to pursue graduate school as he wasn’t “civil engineering material.” Upon graduating he relocated to Colorado (but continues to be an ever-tortured Lobo basketball fan), got a job, raised a family, worked for a bit, and then started some businesses. And the rest, as they say, is history…
